2026 Summer Bike Wherever Day | Wednesday, June 24, 2026

While the North Front Range and Colorado are excited to celebrate Bike Month every June, the highlight of the activities is Bike Wherever Day on June 24, when individuals leave their cars at home and bike wherever they go. The annual free event attracts tens of thousands of Colorado drivers who celebrate by swapping a car ride for a ride on two wheels. Participating helps improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and ease traffic congestion. Plus, it’s fun! Studies show that people who bike have the happiest time of all. Kick off your day feeling energized, de-stressed, and refreshed.

There are many ways to participate in Bike Wherever Day, whether you’re riding to work, around your neighborhood, taking a quick spin before logging on at home, dropping off the kids at school, or visiting a local breakfast spot before starting your day.

What to Expect

Whether you’re a daily biker or a first-time rider, Bike Wherever Day is all about community, fresh air, and fun. Here’s what you can look forward to:

Fuel Up with Free Breakfast: Swing by any official breakfast station to grab some morning fuel! While each station is unique, you can expect a variety of free food and drinks to keep you warm and energized (while supplies last).

Comradery and Community: You won’t be alone out there! Our trails and bikeways come alive on Bike Wherever Day. Expect plenty of smiles, waves, and high-fives as you connect with fellow Coloradans who value life on two wheels. It’s the perfect place to make a new friend.

A Ride for Everyone: There is no “experience required” here. This event is for everyone, from seasoned cyclists to those who haven’t been on a bike in years.

  • If you’re a pro:  Be patient and welcome new riders.
  • If you’re new:  Don’t be afraid to ask questions! We’re here to help you get rolling.

Be Summer-Ready: Colorado summers are famous for their heatwaves and sudden afternoon storms! We can see crisp 50-degree mornings turn into blistering 90-degree afternoons before you’ve even logged off for the day.

  • Check the Forecast: Review the weather before you head out. Keep an eye out for those classic afternoon thunderstorms or high-wind alerts.
  • Stay Cool & Hydrated: Bring plenty of water and wear sunscreen. Consider packing a change of clothes so you can stay fresh after your morning commute.
  • Dress for the Heat: Lightweight, breathable fabrics are your best friend. Be prepared for the temperature to climb significantly between your morning and afternoon rides.
  • Safety First: If the heat index gets too high or a storm rolls in, don’t sweat it! Feel free to ride another day. The goal is to have fun and stay safe!

Follow the Rules of the Road: Let’s keep our streets and trails safe for everyone by being predictable and courteous. A few quick reminders:

  • Obey the Law: Follow all traffic signs and signals.
  • Go with the Flow: Ride with traffic, not against it.
  • Use bike lanes and trails whenever possible. If you need to ride in the street, ride as far to the right, in the right lane, as practicable except when passing another vehicle, preparing for a left turn, or avoiding hazards.
  • Signal Your Moves: Use hand signals for turns and stops. Always use an audible signal (like a bell or a friendly “on your left!”) before passing.
  • Be Visible: Use headlights, taillights, and reflectors, especially in the early morning or evening.
  • Slow Your Roll: Respect a 15-mph courtesy speed limit on multi-use trails.

Discover a Better Way to Move: You don’t need a “work” destination to join in. You can ride to the grocery store, the library, or just around the block! You might find that biking is the happiest part of your day.

No Bike? No Problem! You don’t need to own a bike to join the fun. There are plenty of ways to get moving on Bike Everywhere Day:

  • Shared Micromobility: Many Colorado communities offer bike, e-bike, and e-scooter programs. Check out Spin in Fort Collins or Greeley to grab a ride on the go.
  • Rent for the Day: Want the full cycling experience? Many local bike shops offer daily rentals so you can test out a high-quality ride for your commute.
  • Roll Your Own Way: Have a scooter, skateboard, unicycle, hoverboard, or Segway? We love all small, low-speed, wheeled devices. If it rolls, it counts!

Mark your calendars from June 1st to June 30th, 2026, for the “Summer Moves” Regional Challenge in Northern Colorado! The “Summer Moves” Regional Challenge is a North Front Range regional challenge to improve air quality by encouraging commuters to skip solo drives and opt for sustainable transportation options such as transit, biking, walking, vanpooling, and carpooling. “Summer Moves” will coincide with the 2026 Bike Wherever Day on June 24th, 2026.

The “Summer Moves” Regional Challenge is a partnership among several communities in the North Front Range region, uniting both large and small communities to encourage residents and visitors to walk, bike, roll, carpool, vanpool, or ride transit, anything that gets people out of their cars. It doesn’t matter if you’re walking to the grocery store, heading to the office, meeting a friend at an event, or biking to the brewery on the weekend; any trip counts if you would normally drive your car.

The NFRMPO will be utilizing the RideNoCo Trip Planning Tool to help you track your rides and get in the running for prizes. Other Stations around the State

Host a Station
Celebrate the resilience of our cyclists by hosting a stop on their commute! By setting up a station, your organization helps foster a culture of sustainable travel while improving air quality and reducing traffic congestion across our region.

What is a Station?
Stations are community hubs where riders can pause to warm up and refuel. Most hosts provide a mix of:

  • Refreshments: Hot coffee, water, food items, or snacks.
  • Resources: Safety information, bike maps, or educational materials.
  • Motivation: Giveaways with branded “swag,” and a friendly atmosphere to cheer on commuters.

How to get started
You can host a station independently or team up with neighboring businesses and local agencies to create a “super station” that offers even more. Once you’re ready, register your station with the local municipality in which you are located. Be sure to include specific details so riders can easily find you on the day of the event. For more information on station-hosting logistics and requirements, check with your local municipality.

Registration
Registration for the June Bike Wherever Day event opens on different days depending on your local municipality. While you don’t have to register to participate, those who register will have the chance to win prizes—registering for Bike Wherever Day also helps us show the impact of taking 30,000 or more cars off the road in a day by highlighting residents’ desire to commute by bike, which supports the efforts to improve biking infrastructure. Visit your local municipality or organizer for more details on registration and station hosting.
